Wheels day Wednesday....

The grass was a little wet this morning because of the overnight rain. So what did we do - we got the lawn mower out, the trolley out and the prams out! The children enjoyed running behind the trolley and pushing their friends around in the trolley. Liam and Logan loved pushing the lawn mower around Liam had a little game going where he filled the catcher with grass and pushed the mower around.



Logan watched what Liam did and played the same game...

What did you do on the weekend? The Morepork Teachers had a fun-filled weekend! We got together and made canapes to share! They were yummy and it was great getting together and sharing all the yummy food.


Vanessa went to Taupo and did a sky dive! How awesome!

Free Play Friday...

Today the sun didn't come out for very long so we had a short play on the grass then we pulled the sides down again and set up different experiences on the deck.

Bez and Vanessa attempted to put together the bouncer that Callan gave us! Today was Callan's last day, he is transitioning into the Tuis.

We climbed, balanced and went sliding on the mini obstacle course.

The we danced and sang to the Bean Bag song, throwing them, catching them and putting them on our heads as we walked around the room...

The musical instruments were available all day for the children to play and create music with!

There was even time to sit down and chill out with a good book!
What a perfect way to end Callan's last day in the Morepork's!

Where has the sun gone?

This question we pondered today as we played inside...where has the sun gone? The sides on the deck were pulled down and activities were set up on the deck and inside to entice the children's interests. We did some painting, climbing across the plank and down the slide. We did puzzles, rolled playdough and played with the animals. We danced, we sang and we made pizza for afternoon tea.








I wonder if the sun will come out tomorrow? It will be cool to have some fun in the sun on the last day of the working/playing week!

What a Wednesday!!!!

Today is the first day of February and what a day it has been!!!

We spent some time watching the monarch butterfly lay some eggs on our swan plants. We saw the caterpillars eating the leaves and even spotted one chrysalis.
We danced to Mrs Bunny, The Bird Dance and Rock-a-bye Your Bear...


It was Jana's birthday yesterday so we had a party at Village Kids today. She brought in a yummy Miss Kitty cake and cupcakes for all the children...


Also a parent brought some plums in to share. There were so many of them we decided to make some plum jam!


I think we might have fresh scones with our fresh plum jam for afternoon tea today, yummy!!!!

Our busy day - 31 January 2012

Its the last day of January and in the Moreporks we have had a busy day!
We have been playing in the waterplay...

We have been doing puzzles...

Making new friends...

And practising our physical skills by trying to twirl the hula hoops on our arms...

Its has been a fun day! I wonder what the first day of February will bring?

Our new Morepork!

Welcome Back Carolyn!

For the past few weeks Carolyn has been working down with the Tui's and the Pukeko's. We were happy to share her but are even happier that she is back to play with us.
For Carolyn's first day back the children and teachers decided to bake her a yummy banana cake. We also had fun in the water play and in the sandpit digging and filling up buckets of sand.
For afternoon tea we surprised Carolyn with the cake we baked also singing Wwelcome back to the Morepork's". We cant wait to see what new and exciting ideas and activities Carolyn will show us from the centre down the road!

Stretchy Lycra

We had so much fun with the stretchy lycra today. Vanessa and Amanda helped the children to stretch and pull and tug on the blue lycra. The children also liked wriggling their fingers and toes underneath the lycra just like 'The Stretchy Lycra" song suggested. We all laughed and giggled as we worked so closely next to each other. We will definitely be doing this activity again tomorrow!

Water Fun for Everyone

This morning is was very peaceful in the garden. The children were so involved in their play that we could hear the birds chirping and the water dripping in the puddles. The water trough was out and so were lots of water toys like buckets, water wheels, boats and watering cans. The orange water was transported from one trough to the other by the children and again onto the ground to make puddles to splash around in.

All the children worked alongside each other so well sharing the toys and the space around the troughs. Through their play they were thinking about and learning about weight and volume as they filled their buckets and watering cans; and also developing working theories about water and its properties and they way it made the water wheels spin around.

We had a fantastic morning playing with the water splashing about and breaking the silence in the garden with our laughter. Have a look at the photos which share the enjoyment the children had in their play this morning.

The Summer Holidays!

We have had so much fun over the Christmas/New Year break! The children have had fun painting, building, playing with bubbles and helping to look after the Blue Tongued Skinks!
